What the names actually mean
Facelift names describe how deep the surgeon works, not how good the result is. Skin-only lifts pull the skin. A SMAS lift works on the fibrous layer under it. A deep plane facelift releases that layer from the ligaments holding it down and repositions the deeper structures with the skin still attached to them, which is why the cheek and jawline move together rather than the skin moving alone.
Deep plane or SMAS
Both address sagging below the skin; they differ in how far the tissue is freed. A deep plane lift is the larger operation and is usually chosen for deeper sagging around the jowls, the cheek and the neck. A SMAS lift remains a reasonable choice for lighter sagging, and the decision belongs to the surgeon who has examined the face, not to a comparison table.
Where the traceless facelift fits
A traceless facelift is about the incisions rather than the depth: it suits moderate sagging where the priority is keeping the scars hidden or short. It does less than a deep plane lift, and it asks less of the recovery.
Endoscopic and mid-face lifts
An endoscopic facelift works through small incisions, usually in or near the hairline, with a camera giving the surgeon the view. An endoscopic mid-face lift targets the cheek and the area under the eye rather than the jawline and neck. Both are aimed at the upper and middle face, so they answer a different complaint from a deep plane lift.
How to tell which one you are being offered
Ask what layer is being lifted, where the incisions will sit, how long the operation takes and how long the swelling lasts. A plan that names the technique but not the layer is not a plan. Prices follow the operation: the price list shows what each package includes.
